How do you feel about the Impala being the third
Winchester son?
The Impala plays a central part on Supernatural. It definitely is part of the Winchester family, but
more the ‘daughter’ than the son (Dean always refers to her as ‘Baby’).
At the start of the
first season, she seems to be just a cool, classic car that the boys drive
around in. We later find out that Dean inherited this from his father, and we
see that he definitely cares about the car, even going as far as re-building it
twice. It is one of the few, permanent possessions that he has throughout the
whole series, and as Chuck says in 5.22, it was the boys’ home growing up and
still is their home to this day.
She is kind of like a mother, in a way, as she’s a comfort
to the Winchesters and ‘takes care of them’, of sorts, but then she’s also like
Dean’s child in the way that he treats her.
You know, while Dean always refers to her as Baby and cars/ships are frequently referred to as "She" I hadn't thought of her as the the Winchester daughter, but that is really inspired. It also matches with how John talks to Dean about treating her. Bravo!
