How do the
Winchesters connect with the people in the first three episodes?
During the pilot episode, Sam experiences much of what his
father had to twenty-two years before he did. They both lost the woman that
they loved in the same way, and these deaths are bookends in this episode.
In ‘Wendigo’, Hailey and Ben are looking for their brother
in the Blackwater Ridge. They only have each other, as their parents both died
when they were younger, and they would do anything for their other siblings,
even put themselves in danger. This reflects on Sam and Dean’s lives: their mum
died when they were very young and since their father wasn’t really there for
them when they were children and he is now missing, they only have each other. The
Winchesters would also do anything if it means protecting the other, and would
even die for the other without caring about themselves.
In the episode ‘Dead in the Water’, the boy that was killed
is getting his revenge by making his murderers feel the pain his mother felt by
killing their children. These families are paying for the sins of their
fathers, similar to what Dean and Sam have to do on a daily basis by having to
hunt (something their father got them into) and live the sort of lifestyle they
do. Also, the Sheriff and Bill Carlton’s past caught up to them after doing
something all those years ago when they were kids, kind of like how the thing
that killed Mary came back and murdered Jess in the same way.
You make good points. Some other things to consider is "How" Sam and Dean connect. Sam connect through sincerity and Dean connects through charisma. They both tell lies, but they use different ways to lie...
ReplyDeleteYou connection on Dead in The Water and Mary and Jess was interesting. I hadn't thought of that before myself.
