WHAT SHOWS DO YOU ENJOY WATCHING?

What show do you enjoy watching? Why do you enjoy watching it?
A TV show I enjoy watching is Chuck.
Something I love about Chuck is how the characters have grown over the five seasons and how unique each of the characters are. The main character of the show, Chuck Bartowski, has developed greatly over the seasons, turning from a nerd that worked in an appliance store who’s life wasn’t going anywhere to being a great, very capable spy. While he has matured, the nerdy and naive side is brought out in him throughout each episode, and he still cares greatly about keeping people safe even if they’re the bad guy, which means he has a strict ‘no gun’ policy. John Casey, a supporting character, is completely opposite to Chuck here. Casey was in the marines before he became a spy, and he has an urge for action and violence. Casey, unlike Chuck who became tougher, has become softer and a little more human as the series has progressed. The other characters have also changed dramatically, adding more personality to the show.
Another thing that makes Chuck enjoyable is the relationships that form and develop between the characters and how they treat each other. Chuck has a sister, Ellie, and it is obvious from the first episode that they are very close. They’ve had to depend on each other from a young age, and they only want the best for each other, which makes things rather difficult when Chuck has to keep the fact that he is a spy from her. The on and off relationship between Chuck and his love interest on the show, Sarah Walker, has also added to my fascination of it. Since Sarah is a tough spy who feels like she shouldn’t get close to anyone because of this, and Chuck starts out as a regular guy who can’t help falling for her, it causes some difficultly, but they eventually manage to make it work.
I also like the genre of this series. It is a mix of comedy and action, two things which can go very well together or fail miserably. The writers manage to strike a good balance of both for what is appropriate, which means that each episode is very unique compared to another. Even though it does have some fight scenes and the occasional death in the episodes, it had been written so well that the characters are still lovable and it is still quite light and playful.

  1. My dad is a big fan of Chuck... as are several of my friends. I never got into it, and I keep meaning to just watch the DVD's. Your writing was informative and complete. Watch for run-ons. Think about how you know that it is the writers that make it enjoyable. Could it be the directors or the actors? Remember TV is COLLABORATIVE literature. The second step after recognizing WHAT you like is WHO is responsible for it.
