Sam and Dean often
feel their work unappreciated. Contrast this with the behaviours and reactions
of Jerry and Amanda towards the boys. Discuss the values of the Winchesters’
work.
Sam and Dean feel like their work is unappreciated (maybe
because thanks isn’t voiced as often as it should be), but it is in fact the
opposite. They’ve risked their own lives to save and help random strangers,
some who do not seem to deserve it. In ‘Wendigo’, Hailey and Ben were immensely
grateful that their brother was saved. And in ‘Dead in the Water’, it was
obvious that Andrea was extremely thankful that they saved her son from the
spirit.Jerry and Amanda were both extremely grateful to the Winchesters for getting rid of the demon and saving the lives of the people on the plane. Amanda repaid them in a way by not telling the police about them. When we first see Jerry at the beginning of the episode, he does not stop saying positive things and being thankful for the time many years ago when Dean and John rid his house of a poltergeist, and you can tell he is extremely relieved at the end of the episode when the demon is gone.
You make good points. Considering all we have seen so far is people being grateul, why do Sam and Dean make it sound like they are unappreciated?
