How do you feel about your sibling?

I have one sibling: a sister who has eighteen months on me. Katie is quite opposite to me in many ways, just as the two sets of brothers are in the stories are different to each other.

One example is that our tastes in music differ quite dramatically: she likes to listen to whatever new pop tunes are played on the radio, whereas I prefer to listen to rock or anything that’s less ‘techno’. It’s something we struggle with occasionally, especially on long car trips, but somehow, we eventually manage to agree on a song after going through half of the music on her iPod.

The activities we do are also quite different too, just as the Winchesters and brothers in The Scarlet Ibis enjoy doing different things from each other. For instance, she spends most of her time on Facebook and always has to have her phone on her, and also spends any moment she can with her friends. I, on the other hand, spend whatever time I have on the computer writing and my phone is probably one of my least precious possessions. I see my friends mostly on the weekends, but sometimes I prefer just to stay home by myself and watch a good movie or read.

We do have the occasional argument, like all siblings do, but I’m happy to report that they have decreased dramatically the older we have gotten. When we were younger, these fights would break out almost every day and sometimes turn physical, but luckily we have both matured and grown closer.

We tease each other endlessly, over little things that don’t really mean anything. The line between what is going too far is faint because we spend so much time around each other and know each others' insecurities, but it surprisingly and rarely gets crossed.

Being the older sibling though, Katie does boss me around sometimes, which, as my mum (who is also the oldest of her sisters) is her job, and she takes advantage of it at times, just as Dean and Brother do.

While the love isn’t shown as much between us, there have been incidents that have shown that we’ve got each others’ backs.  She has been protective of me at times (usually when our parents aren’t around...) and reassuring too.
