Write the events of 'Faith' from Roy Le Grange's point of view.
Things have changed. It all started just over a week ago.
A young man and his brother came to my church ten days ago.
The boy who was to be healed, Dean, didn’t have faith enough to believe that
his dying day could be postponed, but his brother did. There was something in
those boys’ hearts that was different than the rest of the congregation, hence
the reason it was revealed to me that he should be healed. He had an important
work to do and I hope that I gave him the chance to complete it.
I healed one more person after that, an elderly man
suffering from lung cancer. He had only a few weeks left to live, but I managed to prevent that. After that, I was unable to heal any longer.
I didn’t know what had caused it. I assumed that I had been
blessed and chosen after having lost my sight, but now I’m not so sure. My
faith was shaken incredibly.
This gift was one that many people depended on. They needed
me to heal their fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, sons, daughters. My ability
to do so is now gone and many of my brothers and sisters feel as though they
are forsaken. Why could others be healed when they can’t? They came to me for
answers, but I have none. I only pray that all will be revealed to me someday.
My dear wife, Sue-Ann, passed away from a stroke a week ago
while I was completing my final healing session. I won’t ever be able to
describe the empty pain that I’m feeling even at this moment. It’s almost too
much, but someone has saved me.
The young woman I was healing at the time is one of great
faith. She would come to all of my healing sessions and wait patiently for the
day that she would be chosen. When she finally was, I could only disappoint her
and her eager mother. They were both heartbroken.
But still Layla came to me early this morning to comfort me.
She told me that she would continue praying for me, that I may be able get through this
hard time. That was when my faith was restored. If this girl that I had failed,
a girl that was going to die, could
believe there was a God, I could too.
Hey! Sorry this took so long. I am on summer vacation here in US and sometimes Internet is tricky.
ReplyDeleteRoy is an interesting character because he does appear so righteous and innocent in the whole mess... I would point out however his own hubris. He tells Layla that HE will heal her. That is where he has started to beleive his own hype. At that point I no longer find him sympathetic... It makes for some interesting comparisons. I think you are doing a great job examining character motivations.
